OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE

To bring the freshest, highest-quality White & Puna yams from Ghana to homes and businesses across South Africa — while ensuring the people who grow them thrive.

About AfriHarvest

Other stores may sell “African yams” — but at AfriHarvest, we bring South Africa the finest White & Puna yams, known across West Africa as the “king of yams,” grown in the rich soils of Ghana.

Our story

Our journey began in the Techiman region of Ghana, where some of the world’s finest yams are grown. We traveled there to meet directly with local farmers and their communities, to understand their work, traditions, and challenges. What we found was a rich heritage of farming knowledge, passed down through generations, and a community deeply committed to growing food with care.

Fair partnerships

From the start, we made a promise: to buy directly from farmers at a fair price. This commitment ensures that the people at the heart of the supply chain are supported, and that yam farming remains sustainable for future generations. By working closely with local growers, we’ve built a relationship based on trust, respect, and shared prosperity.

From farm to South Africa

The journey of our yams is a testament to quality and care. After being harvested in Techiman, the yams are carefully prepared and transported directly to the port in Accra. From there, they are shipped to Durban, South Africa, and then delivered to our hub in Johannesburg. This supply chain allows us to deliver fresh, authentic White & Puna yams to the South African market while maintaining full traceability from farm to table.

What makes White & Puna Yams the best?

  • Flavor & Texture: Firm, starchy, and slightly sweet with a creamy bite — ideal for traditional and modern dishes.
  • Size & Quality: Grown under optimal conditions, White & Puna yams are larger, cleaner, and longer-lasting than other varieties.
  • Authentically African – More than just food, our yams carry the heritage, culture, and pride of Ghana.
  • Trusted Quality – We hand-select and inspect every shipment, so you can shop with confidence.

What Are Yams Used For?

White Puna yams are a true kitchen staple. They can be:

Taste that stands out

Ghanaian yams are known for their naturally rich, slightly sweet flavor that deepens when cooked. Unlike some tubers that can taste bland, these yams carry a depth of flavor that enhances both traditional and modern dishes. Whether fried, boiled, pounded, or roasted, Ghanaian yams bring a wholesome, authentic taste that keeps people coming back.

Impressive size and consistency

Yams from Ghana are typically larger, denser, and more uniform in quality compared to many imports. Each tuber is hand-harvested and carefully selected, giving you more value in every purchase. Their size and consistency make them a reliable staple for family meals, celebrations, and everyday cooking.
